SUHYOON(HANNAH) LEE
I like how human beings show various aspects of themselves. I believe that the roots of human imperfection lie in our unknown future. The different variations of red in my 2-D works is widely present because red is the most accessible color to me when I experiment with my imaginations. I think it is the most mesmerizing color to express humanity's complex emotions and imperfections. Moreover, the color red can be an extremely powerful agent to assert intense and unstable emotions.
I draw works where beauty and grotesquery coexist to express the complex affects of human existence. The beauty and ugliness that exist simultaneously in my art invite the audience to determine whether the conclusion of the work is positive or negative. Humans are beautiful because they are imperfect, and their past does not change. I want to become an artist who can change the future not by being obsessed with my past. I run toward various future and present possibilities with hope and anxiety.
인간의 입체적인 면모를 관찰하고 연구해 나가며 표현하고 있다. 인간의 불완전함은 알 수 없는 미래로 인한것이라 생각한다. 나의 작업에선 빨간 색이 많이 쓰이는데, 인간의 복합적인 감정과 불완전함을 표현하기에 가장 아름다운 색이란 생각이 든다. 또한, 한 순간에 공존하는 사람의 이중적인 감정을 표현하기 위해 아름다움과 징그러움이 공존하는 작품을 그린다. 하나의 작품에 공존하는 미와 추함은 작품의 결론이 긍정인지 부정인지에 대한 결정을 관객에게 온전히 판단할 수 있도록 남겨두었다. 인간은 불완전하기에 아름다운 것이고, 과거는 변하지 않는다. 변하지 않는 과거에 매달리지 않고 불안감을 안고 수많은 가능성이 열린 미래를 향해 달려나가며 나의 미래를 바꿔가는 아티스트가 되고싶다.
